Popular combinations include: Law, Commerce, Communications, Politics, Sociology, Tourism, Environmental Science, and Media Studies. The Asian Studies program at Murdoch University will give you the language skills and the cross-cultural awareness you need to succeed. Murdoch's School of Asian Studies is the oldest in the state and is the home of the Asia Research Centre, the premier research unit on contemporary Asia. Our graduates are helped in their success by Murdoch's reputation as one of Australia's leading teaching and research universities for Asian Studies, gaining sought-after positions in both business and government departments like Foreign Affairs, Defence, Education and Development Assistance. In both Australia and overseas, our graduates have also gone on to a wide range of exciting and challenging careers working in tourism, international affairs, marketing, and the media. Murdoch offers insights into all aspects of Asia: history, politics, economics, societies, cultures and languages. You can study Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese and as part of your degree take part in Murdoch's innovative in-country study opportunities. Get first hand experience of life in Asia; spend a year or semester in China, Japan or Indonesia! Asian Studies has a rich diversity of units about Asia available for study and two separate undergraduate programs from which to choose. These are available full-time, part-time, or through our external mode of study. You can take a Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) (3 years full-time or equivalent part-time) or a Bachelor of Asian Studies (Specialist) (4 years full-time or equivalent part-time). Indonesian StudiesAs an indication of Murdoch's strong reputation in Indonesian Studies, it is the founder and host of the national Australian Consortium for 'In-Country' Indonesian Studies (ACICIS), which has a membership of 20 universities nation-wide. ACICIS provides a smooth mechanism through which students can undertake a year's study in Indonesian universities. Units at Murdoch include anthropology, politics, history, religion, media and cultural studies. Japanese StudiesMurdoch has one of the best Japanese Studies offerings in Australia, with a thriving in-country study program. Students study in five Japanese universities that have exchange arrangements with Murdoch. Since it started in 1990 Murdoch's Japanese Studies students have won over $2 million dollars in scholarships, the result of their exceptionally high academic standard. In addition to their language units, students also study the Japanese economy and business, as well as history, politics and contemporary culture. Murdoch encourages students to think creatively about their study and career choices - you will find it is possible to combine the highly regarded Asian Studies degrees with almost any other degree offered at Murdoch.
