Development Studies at Murdoch
Development Studies is administered through the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, but constitutes a discrete program drawing on units from across the University. The coordinators of Development Studies are Dr Carol Warren and Dr Jane Hutchison. The program provides formal qualifications for graduates from a broad range of disciplines who wish to acquire an understanding of globalization and development issues. Units offered cover a diverse range of economic, environmental, social, political and educational aspects of development issues. The Development Studies Program at Murdoch brings together the broad range of disciplines needed for understanding the complex processes of economic and social development. The program permits considerable flexibility in the combination of units and disciplinary emphasis to complement the diverse backgrounds and interests of its students. The program is designed to serve the needs of teachers, journalists, development consultants, and those currently employed or seeking employment in non-government organisations, international agencies or public service departments involved with inter-country aid and the relationships between trade, capital and people in the global system. Murdoch University is located in Perth, Western Australia. Due to its geographic location and the particular strength of research on Asia at Murdoch, the Development Studies Program has a strong emphasis on development in the Asian region. Murdoch University is home to a number of internationally recognised specialist research centres in related areas, including the Asia Research Centre, the Institute for Sustainability and Technology Policy, the Research Institute for Sustainable Energy, and the Remote Area Developments Group. Postgraduate coursework students may be eligible for a Federal Government-provided FEE-HELP loan. You must be a domestic, fee-paying student who is either an Australian citizen, the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa (resident in Australia for the duration of the course) or the holder of a permanent visa enrolled in a bridging course for overseas trained professionals (resident in Australia for the duration of the course).
