Master of Arts in Development StudiesDo you want to work to address global poverty, human vulnerability and injustice? This interdisciplinary program lets you study the complex processes of social, political and economic development. It offers:
CAREERSGraduates can expect to pursue careers in public, private and non-government sectors as development practitioners, consultants, researchers, policy advisers, educators and journalists within Australia and overseas. ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTSA recognised Bachelor of Arts Honours degree or a Postgraduate Diploma is required for direct entry. If you have an ordinary BA degree, you may be able to enrol for the Masters if you have relevant professional experience. If you have previously studied in a language other than English, you will need to achieve an IELTS score of 6.0 (with at least a score of 6.0 in every band – speaking, reading, writing, listening). TOEFL tests are also accepted. For Internet-based tests a score of 80 (with no band less than 20) is required. The Postgraduate Diploma in Development Studies constitutes the first half of the Masters. Students who have already completed this award will be admitted and credited with 24 points towards the Master of Arts of Development Studies. DEGREE STRUCTUREYear One requires 24 points, with 8-12 points in core units and 12-16 points in electives. Year Two requires 24 points, with 16-24 points in core units and 0-8 points in electives.
