Politics & International Studies at Murdoch

Murdoch is the only university in Perth to combine Politics and International Studies in one degree program. It has been described as “a jewel in the crown” of Murdoch University.

You will be taught by staff with strong international reputations in research. They are the authors of various widely-read books.

Students of Politics and International Studies look at how government and society is organised and how this may be improved to achieve the `good life'. We do this by reflecting on the ideas of past and present great thinkers and by examining major events and trends in the world today.

You can create your own degree combinations by completing a `double major' in the same allotted time. For example, Politics and International Studies is easily mixed with degrees in Law, Legal Studies, Asian Studies, History, Economics, Public Policy and Management, Environmental Science and so on.

A Politics and International Studies degree will develop your skills in analysing data and argument, gathering and using information correctly from a range of sources, critical thinking and expressing ideas in a convincing manner.

A Parliamentary Internship with the State Parliament can be undertaken as part of a Politics and International Studies degree.

Scholarships are available annually to study in Hong Kong for one semester as a part of a Politics and International Studies degree. The scholarships include airfares, subsidised accommodation on campus and a waiver of fees.

While members of the program have a variety of research interests, Politics and International Studies has a particular strength in research into political and economic issues in the South East Asian Region. The program has very strong links to the Asia Research Centre.

Our graduates are currently employed as researchers, policy officers, trade representatives and advisers throughout Australia and overseas in government, the parliament, business, international organisations and the voluntary sector.

Master of Arts in Globalisation and Governance

The School is launching a new Master of Arts in Globalisation and Governance from 2009, which links our expertise in public policy with ongoing research related to changing modes of governance in the Asia Pacific region
