Welcome from the Head of School![]() Associate Professor Jim Macbeth Welcome to the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, where we offer a broad range of disciplines and areas of study, all taught by enthusiastic and highly-qualified staff. The degree courses for which we are responsible include English, Philosophy, Asian studies, General Arts, History, Politics and International Studies, Development Studies, Public Policy and Management, Sociology, Community Development, Tourism and Theology. Many of these courses in turn contain multiple options; for example English students may specialise in Creative Writing or Theatre as well as traditional and contemporary literature. Asian Studies spans units in Japanese and Indonesian language, culture and history. So it is impossible to introduce all of the riches we have on offer in a brief word of welcome, you will need to look carefully throughout our web site and explore all the options for yourself. Some of our courses are more explicitly vocational than others, but all will help you acquire knowledge and develop skills of lifelong value. They are also enjoyable. Associate Professor Jim Macbeth |
